Completed in 2023, the new home for the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Worcester Polytechnic Institute stands as a testament to thoughtful, modern collegiate design that honors tradition. Located at 99 Salisbury Street in Worcester, Massachusetts, the building commands a prominent presence along the gateway to WPI’s campus. Working seamlessly alongside the Phi Gamma Delta Board of Trustees, our team was tasked with developing a completely reimagined chapter house on this historic, high-profile site.
The stunning new 14,500-square-foot structure spans three meticulously planned levels over a full basement. Replacing what had been the oldest fraternity house on the WPI campus—originally built at the turn of the 20th century—the original facility had unfortunately been modified over decades until it was virtually unrecognizable. Faced with the prohibitive costs of retrofitting the aged structure for modern accessibility, updating complex mechanical systems, and improving sleeping and study quarters, the committee made the forward-thinking decision to invest in a brand-new, purpose-built structure.
Constructed by FW Madigan Construction of Worcester, the new residence artfully balances contemporary student life with fraternity heritage. The design features:
Dynamic Living Quarters: A strategic mix of modern, dormitory-style fraternity rooms and collaborative study spaces designed to foster academic excellence.
Community-Centric Amenities: A state-of-the-art dining facility and a variety of expansive living spaces that encourage brotherhood and connection.
The Lower Level: A dedicated, private Chapter Room alongside an expansive game area and flexible activity space.
By blending robust, high-quality materials with an architectural language that respects the surrounding campus fabric, this new landmark honors the chapter’s rich history while providing a safe, accessible, and inspiring home for generations of future leaders to come.
